Taking the Word at His Word

Preacher: Malachi Tresler Series: The Gospel of John Scripture: John 4:43–54

Malachi Tresler. John 4:43-54 -- "Trust Jesus as your Savior through faith in his word, not by sight."

1. Jesus Is Not Trying to Attract Sign-Seekers (v43-45)
This warns us against a superficial faith that seeks only spiritual highs. We are called to embrace Jesus for who He is—the Lamb of God—and not merely for the miracles He can perform.

2. Belief in Jesus is Not a Blind “Leap of Faith” (v46-50)
The story of the official whose son was healed illustrates this. Despite not witnessing the miracle, the official believed Jesus's word. This narrative encourages us to trust in God's word, even when we cannot see its immediate fulfillment. It's not blind faith, but trust based on the character and promises of God.

3. Our Faith Is Strengthened By Witnessing Jesus’s Effect on Others (v51-54)
Like the official who believed after his son's healing, our faith grows when we see God's work in the lives of others. This communal aspect of faith serves as a reminder that our belief is not in isolation but is bolstered by the testimonies of those around us.

We are encouraged to trust Jesus as our Savior, not by sight but through faith in His word. Our faith, though currently unseen, will one day be confirmed. Let this assurance lead us to live lives of trust and obedience, glorifying Jesus Christ in all we do.
